Our school is situated in Palmerston just outside of Darwin and is one of the Northern Territory’s newest schools. We opened our doors in 2011 with 281 students and our enrolments ending 2015 are sitting at 520. Rosebery Primary School adheres to the NT DoE policy on Priority Enrolment. This means that we accept enrolments from the surrounding Rosebery, Bellamack and Zuccoli suburbs only, working within an enrolment management plan as we are almost at capacity.
We believe strongly in acknowledging the language and culture of our Indigenous students who represent around 10% of our enrolment and the approximately 25% of our students who speak English as an additional language. Around 30% of our students are also from actively serving Australian Defence Force families and we are also mindful to cater specifically for their unique needs and circumstances.
Rosebery Primary School was built with a focus on new architecture which would facilitate a contemporary way of thinking about educating NT students. We co-teach at Rosebery Primary School and this requires our teachers to work together, for both planning and teaching, and our students respond to the student-centred programs that have become a feature of their educational experience. We are very focussed on ensuring children learn in a safe and inviting learning environment through working collaboratively with our students and families. We have a focus on Performing Arts and pride ourselves of offering creative learning opportunities to all students particularly in the areas of dance, drama and music.
The learning experience at Rosebery Primary School is challenging, interesting, supportive and fun and we pride ourselves on being able to meet the learning needs of all students through our ‘Big 4’ underpinning ways of working: Kagan Cooperative Learning, Visible Learning, Co-teaching and Restorative Practices which are all underpinned by a strong evidence base.
